The Tax Collector is responsible for the yearly billing, reporting, enforcing and quarterly collection of tax levies within guidelines mandated by the State of New Jersey. As a statutory officer of the State of New Jersey, the Tax Collector is obligated to follow all the State Statues regarding property tax collection including, interest of delinquent tax payments, and tax sale procedures. The Tax Collector is charged with the receipt and collection of all taxes, assessments, and miscellaneous revenues both current and delinquent.
Tax bills are mailed out in July and the first payment is due August 1st. Failure to receive a tax bill does not exempt you from paying your taxes or the interest due on delinquent taxes.
Welcome to the Borough of Teterboro! If you did not receive the tax bill from the previous owner at your closing, and you do not have a mortgage company escrowing your taxes, please call the tax office (201) 288-1200 ext. 7126 to have one printed for you. By statue, it is the homeowner's responsibility to ascertain the amount and due dates of property taxes, but we need to hear from you in order to answer your questions.
Taxes are due in quarterly installments. These dates are set by the State of New Jersey.
1st Quarter February 1
2nd Quarter May 1
3rd Quarter August 1
4th Quarter November 1
The Township of River Vale offers a 10 calendar day grace period for payment of taxes. Payment must be received by the last day of the grace period to avoid interest; therefore if the 10th falls on a Saturday, Sunday or Holiday, the last day of the grace period is extended to the next business day. Please note that on the day following the last day of the grace period interest will be charged, reverting to the statutory due dates, at 8% on the first $1,500.00 and 18% on the balance amount of $1,500.00. A year-end penalty will be charged at 6% on all delinquent balances (including interest) in excess of $10,000 not received by December 31. Please read the back of the tax bill for valuable information that may answer many of your questions.
Payments can be made in person or mailed to the Tax Collector's office at Borough of Teterboro, 510 Route 46 West, Teterboro, NJ 07608.
Checks should be payable to the "Borough of Teterboro". If mailing your payment and you would like a receipt, please include your entire tax bill with a self-addressed, stamped envelope.
By statute, our office is required to deposit payments as soon as they are received and we cannot accept "post-dated" checks. Therefore, please date your check the day you write it out, just as you would if you were paying in person.
