Construction/Zoning/Planning Information

The Teterboro Building Department, Planning and Zoning Department, Property Maintenance Office, and Fire Official Office are located on the second floor of the Department of Public Works facility at 250 Hollister Road in Teterboro. The Building Department uses Mitchell Humphrey Software to manage, record, and transmit all building department records and available permit information instantly to the State of New Jersey Department of Community Affairs.

The Construction Department is committed to enforcing the regulations to ensure the life, safety, and welfare of the general public; it provides prompt and courteous service to both the public and private sector. The Department operates under the guidelines established by the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs and the State of New Jersey Uniform Construction Code. The Borough Code Officials are licensed under the State of New Jersey to perform plan review and building inspections on high rise/hazardous as well as all other structures permitted under the law. The Building Department is a registered Class I Agency Construction Code Office by the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs.

The Teterboro Building Department’s licensed Technical Assistant accepts and directs all permit and zoning, new development, and change of tenancy matters. While acting as the Secretary to the Planning Board, the Technical Assistant also logs and presents completed applications to the Planning Board members. As required under New Jersey State law, current records are kept on file for all properties under the lot and block filing system.

A portion of Teterboro falls within the Meadowlands District. The NJSEA Staff are responsible for establishing and enforcing the Zoning, subdivision regulations, permitted land uses, planning, redevelopment procedures and application procedures in the Meadowlands District. All plans and property improvements are reviewed by the NJSEA. The Teterboro Construction Department issues all building permits, and conducts all on-site inspections.

The NJSEA jurisdiction within the Borough is limited to properties south of Route 46 (excluding *Teterboro Airport). Please consult the Building Department to obtain the appropriate guidance.
